SENSEX DIVES 425 PTS, SLIPS BELOW 16,000 LEVEL
It was a Black Monday with both Sensex and Nifty falling for the eighth consecutive day on the back of a weak rupee and concerns over U.S. and Eurozone debt crises. The rupee falling to 32-month low saw huge sell-off by foreign investors. The Sensex closed at one and half month lows -- its biggest fall since May 3, 2011. It plunged 425.41 points to close the day at 15,946.10 led by fall in 28 stocks. Likewise Nifty fell 2.6%, or 127.45 points, to end at 4,778.35. Incidentally, Sensex shed more than 1600 points in the last eight days. Market experts feel that unless the rupee and inflation fall in place, there is not much hope for the markets at least in the short-term and medium-term. read more

(On resolution to split Uttar Pradesh) "Allegations of Opposition parties terming the resolution as a political stunt are entirely wrong as immediately after forming the government in 2007, a letter was sent to the Prime Minister in this regard. When the Centre took no decision on this, the government was forced to bring a resolution after getting it approved by the Cabinet."
