WASHINGTON POST CALLS PM A "TRAGIC FIGURE"
Almost a month after the Time magazine dubbed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as an "underachiever", a story published in The Washington Post has tagged him as a "tragic figure'. The American daily refused to apologise after the Congress party sought an apology for publishing the story which came in the backdrop of Parliament deadlock over the alleged coal scam. The controversial news article called Prime Minister "a respected figure on the world stage" but added saying that his "image of the scrupulously honorable, humble and intellectual technocrat has slowly given way to a completely different one: a dithering, ineffectual bureaucrat presiding over a deeply corrupt government". read more

POLITICAL PARTIES LOG RS 4,662 CR VIA DONATIONS
Political parties in India have 'earned' a whooping Rs 4,662 cr through donation and other sources since 2004. The ruling Congress is the richest with an income of Rs 2,008 cr followed by BJP at Rs 994 cr, two NGOs claimed. Mayawati's BSP is third on the list with Rs 484 cr. Although donations and voluntary contributions are the major sources of income, donations from named contributors form a very small percentage. read more
