CYRUS MISTRY TO SUCCEED RATAN TATA
Putting to rest all speculations and surprising everybody in the corporate world, Ratan Tata, chairman, Tata Group today officially named Cyrus P Mistry as Deputy Chairman of Tata Sons thus clearly stating that the 43-year old Mistry will succeed once he steps down in December 2012. In a terse press release, "The appointment of Mr. Cyrus P. Mistry as Deputy Chairman of Tata Sons is a good and far-sighted choice. He has been on the Board of Tata Sons since August 2006 and I have been impressed with the quality and caliber of his participation, his astute observations and his humility. He is intelligent and qualified to take on the responsibility being offered and I will be committed to working with him over the next year to give him the exposure, the involvement and the operating experience to equip him to undertake the full responsibility of the Group on my retirement," said Tata. read more |
2G SCAM: 5 CORPORATE HONCHOS GET BAIL
The Supreme Court granted bail to 5 corporates charged in the 2G scam that has rocked the government and businesses in the country, raising hopes that others including some politicians may be freed soon. A 2-judge panel granted bail to Sanjay Chandra, MD of Unitech; Vinod Goenka, chairman of Etisalat's India partner DB Group; and 3 executives from Anil Ambani's group - Gautam Doshi, Hari Nair and Surendra Pipara who have been held in jail since April, 2011. read more |
SENSEX DOWN 365 PTS, NIFTY HITS 2-YR LOW
Both Sensex and Nifty hit 2-year low as concerns of high inflation, slowing growth and a faltering rupee continued to sap investor confidence. What stoked the fears further was gloomy data emanating from Germany, China and the U.S signalling global slowdown. Sensex closed at 15,699.97 points, intraday, it fell to 15,478.69 -- its lowest level since Nov 3, 2009. Banks led the losses as HDFC Bank dropped 3.85%, ICICI lost 2.5% and SBI went down 2.03%. Nifty breached 4,700 mark, hitting a 2-year low, before closing 4,706.45 down 105.90 points. read more |
