NTP-2011 AIMS AT FREE ROAMING, FULL MNP  
Telecom users will be able to avail free roaming and keep their phone numbers even if they switch service providers anywhere in the country, as per the draft New Telecom Policy unveiled by the government on Monday. The distinction between local and STD calls would vanish, as the policy aims at a 'one-nation-one-licence' regime. Telecom operators would not require separate licences for operations in various parts of the country and a single licence would suffice.The draft National Telecom Policy 2011 unveiled by Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal today, targets broadband on demand. read more  
2G SCAM: MARAN BROTHERS RAIDED AND BOOKED  
Shares of Sun TV dropped 16% after the CBI raided premises of owner Kalanithi Maran and his brother and former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran. The CBI has registered a case against Dayanidhi related to the takeover of telecom company Aircel by Malaysia-based Maxis Group. It also booked his brother Kalanithi, Maxis owner T. Ananda Krishnan, executive Ralph Marshall and three companies Aspro, Maxis and Sun TV. The CBI also raided the residence of Suneeta Reddy, Jt MD, Apollo Hospitals in connection with Maran's case. read more
