CABINET CLEARS LAND ACQUISITION BILL 2011
The Union Cabinet today cleared the Land Acquisition Bill which will be tabled in the Parliament on September 7. The Bill's draft makes consent of at least 80% landowners mandatory if acquisition is for private projects. Public purpose has been defined as land use for strategic purposes, infrastructure and industry. But the consent is not mandatory when land is acquired by the government for its own use. Multi-cropped agricultural land could be acquired as the last resort in those districts where more than 50% of land is multi-cropped.
