CURRENT ACCOUNT DEFICIT ZOOMS TO RECORD 6.7%
Current Account Deficit widened from 5.4% in the July-September quarter to a record high of 6.7% of GDP in the October-December quarter. The wider Current Account Deficit of $32.6 bn was mainly on account of a larger trade deficit, data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Thursday showed. This is much higher than the 6.4% estimated by CNBC-TV18 poll. A surge in capital flows helped finance the Current Account Deficit. read more

"Although the CAD is large, yet it is a matter of satisfaction that it has been fully financed without drawing upon the foreign exchange reserves. Going forward too, we hope to be able to finance the CAD through sufficient foreign inflows. If the current trend of improvement in exports and steadiness in imports persists, the CAD is likely to moderate from here."

Sensex snaps seven-day losing streak, up 23 points
In 30-BSE index components, 15 stocks closed higher led by HUL, ITC Ltd, Infosys, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel and CIL.

If the political uncertainty continues, the Nifty may head lower to its support level of 5570-5550 going forward, say experts.

Beaten down oil & gas stocks are likely to get more traction on the back of reform push by the government and revival in capital formation.

BIG ADVANTAGE INDIA BUSINESS UPDATE
I have been getting the India Business Update, which I have been browsing through from time to time. You just got to make sure at CNBC-TV18 that people get addicted to it...because that would be great for people who don't watch India Business Hour but just want their updates on India Business Update."

EXPERT VIEWS
"We have been sending letters. We are getting results. The number of returns filed are showing an increase. We intend to continue with the efforts, Tax department's effort is to widen the tax base in order to augment revenue and as the tax base widens, hopefully in near future, tax rates could fall."

Sumit Bose
Revenue Secretary
"The leaked text (India-EU FTA) is indicative of the aggressive pursuit of its objectives by the EU. The EU has sensed an opportunity in the outgoing government's anxiety to showcase its achievement by concluding the FTA. In the process, provisions such as injuncting a generic drug manufacturer on suspicion of infringement, pending a decision on the validity of the patent, completely negates the doctrine of 'unjust enrichment'."

DG Shah
Secretary General, Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance
"We averted a disorderly bankruptcy which would have led to an exit of Cyprus from the euro zone with unforeseeable consequences, The assessment is that it will be under or around 30% (level of losses on uninsured depositors), But that is a bit of an arbitrary estimate."

Spokesman, Cyprus Govt
